Below Deck Sailing Yacht Producers Reveal How They Find Charter Guests

Plus, find out what it's really like to film charter guests aboard the Parsifal III.

"Foam Party Steve," Delores, and the ladies who just wanted some nuts. These are only a few of the unforgettable charter guests we've been introduced to on Below Deck and Below Deck Mediterranean over the years.

How to Watch

Below Deck Sailing Yacht may be relatively new to our screens with only two seasons under its belt, but this franchise has wasted no time in welcoming charter guests who are just as outrageous and over-the-top in their demands. Season 1's so-called "Long Island bros" and, of course, Barrie's group from earlier in Season 2 are a couple that immediately come to mind.

Executive producer Jill Goslicky revealed exactly how charter guests, such as Barrie and his loved ones, end up on Below Deck Sailing Yacht during an exclusive interview with Bravo Insider earlier this season. "We have a casting department that finds the guests," Goslicky explained. "All of the guests that come on board are actual paying guests… The tip money is real, all of that is real. So that process is a little challenging because, you know, finding people that are willing to do that is difficult."

But sometimes, as in the case with Barrie, you get lucky and find someone who checks all the boxes. "He has the means, he has the personality," Goslicky said of Barrie. "We’re grateful he was here."

The Exterior Crew Gets a Drag Makeover

Matt Reichman, Vice President, Current Production at Bravo, added during the same interview with Bravo Insider that Barrie could give the aforementioned Below Deck charter guest Steve Bradley "a run for his money" in terms of how iconic he is. "He is up there with the most memorable charter guests we will ever have, him and his family," Reichman said of Barrie.

Goslicky and Reichman both said they would love to see Barrie's group on charter again in the future — or just anywhere we can watch more of their antics. "Barrie honestly deserves his own TV show," Goslicky said. "That whole family, they should have their own Kardashians-esque TV show, and we were lucky enough to have him on our yacht for a few days."

Of course, the charter guests might not want to be in the spotlight every second of their luxury yacht vacation, which is something production is respectful of, according to Goslicky. "This is a paid vacation for them. The guests, if they wanna go [to] their room, all they have to do, if they request and say, 'I don’t wanna do something, or, 'I don’t want it on camera, and I don’t wanna be mic'd,' you know, we’re not interested in people living totally in public," she said. "Like, we’re not interested in people going to the bathroom. Even in the bunks, there’s no cameras in the bathrooms, you know? We’re not trying to be that voyeuristic."

The Yachties Can't Look Away From the Charter Guests' Argument

Goslicky said that same courtesy is also extended to the Parsifal III crew. "If there is something happening in their personal lives or whatever — they approach us all the time with that, and we’ll give [it to] them. We’re respectful of that," she shared. "I think we’re very clear about what we expect as far as the show is concerned and what we’re not gonna meddle in as far as their personal lives are concerned. And there are boundaries."
